The Ban, The Response and The Aftermath

So what is the commotion about an electronic stick throughout Canada? It’s the ban on e cigarettes as they are judges to be treated in the same way as traditional under the proposed law e liquid nicotine Canada and e cigarettes sale and consumption under 19 is punishable and their use would be restricted to same places as regular ones. There is no restriction for advertising the product, selling or importing them across Canada.

So what is an e cigarette? It’s a battery operated device that mimics the use of traditional cigarettes. When inhaled a liquid solution is heated and vaporized. But the companies are using candy flavours and other props which can result into young teens to be lured away, and nicotine is a highly addictive substance. Teens when picking up a stick of these flavoured e-cigarettes may not even know what they are getting in for.

E cigarettes don’t release the same carcinogens into air as tobacco smoke, though researches and regulations are very much limited in this field it might just prove to be way too soon to categorise them with the packs of Marlboros and Camels; moreover its quite a harmless activity specially for those who are trying to quit the habit, but the one definite up for them is no passive smoke-thank god!

Though the most pressing question of now regarding the ban on e liquid in Canada or e cigarettes in Toronto is the strange vapour blooming out of those tiny cartridges with god knows what components –are they safe? The only known fact about them is it contains propylene glycol found in some food particles and asthma inhalers which might cause little irritation to the airways and nothing much. This clearly made the Toronto high officials to raise an eye brow and resulted in moving the smoke outside. Dr. David McKeown, the city’s medical health officer quoted “prohibit e cigarette Toronto wherever smoking is currently prohibited under local or provincial legislation”. But that’s temporary- temporary as hell. It just doesn’t solve a thing, with a decision like those a vaping movement is sure to take shape and of course it has.

The anti – smoking advocates and the owners of such business argue that instead of working against e- cigarettes the authorities should legalize it as because it is the most healthier alternative for all. And if the authorities regulate what goes in the nicotine cartridges there would be hardly any requirement for banning products or having a big timy and money consuming debate over it all. What should be done is to permit it and recognise the importance and also inform the public that if they are genuinely addicted they should go for a safer alternative. Also the precautions one has to observe if they have children. Amidst all the debates and movements the fuel came as increased number of children were reported being admitted to the hospitals for nicotine poisoning which they swallowed directly from the cartridges of the e- cigarettes someone known to them possessed. Again this was made an issue of by the concerned authorities – and a simple question pops up; why should e- cigarettes and their business suffer a setback for carelessness by the parents of the children.

This whole issue requires patience and mature handling with subtle but assured step towards a more healthier future and more careful considerations about the e liquids of cannada and e – cigarettes in Toronto.
